Our team’s favourite place of visit is Orchard Road, Singapore’s food and shopping paradise. On one such day in the basements of Orchard Gateway, we chanced upon a still renovating Ramen Sora with a large ‘opening soon’ banner on the front, we were so hyped because we love ramen! So here we go, we arrived on their first day of operation. Ramen Sora originated from Sapporo, Hokkaido, and has since then opened many branches in Japan, Philippines and even one in Las Vegas. This newest Singapore branch is at B2 of Orchard Gateway, conveniently located just a minute walk away from Somerset MRT Station.
They serve 3 types of ramen, miso based (fermented bean paste), shoyu based (soy) and shio based (salt). All of which comes with a selection of different additional ingredients. There is also spicy versions for all 3 flavours. Other than ramen, there are Teriyaki Chicken Salad, Shrimp Tempuras, Karaage and fried rice.
Currently, they are offering 20% OFF on standard ramen meals until end of the year, all you have to do is to show them you’ve liked their Facebook page during payment!
The Menu and Prices:
- SPICY MISO DELUXE SORA RAMEN
Cost: $14.50 (Miso deluxe sora ramen = $14.20)
We originally wanted to order the Miso Deluxe Sora Ramen, but was then offered the spicy version which we tried, and did not regret. The server kindly helped us request for the spices to be separated from the bowl in order to enjoy the original Miso Ramen taste first. This is actually a good idea, as it allows you to have your own level of spiciness to the noodles. This meal comes with a lightly flavoured soup which is a good compliment to the strong flavours of the ramen. There is also complimentary green tea served to customers.
The broth is the best part of the dish! Made from premium black pork bones and miso sauce boiled for almost a day, no wonder the broth has an amazingly thick umami flavour, great for a hearty lunch meal. Also, the chashu given here is pretty large compared to many other restaurants.
Next, we mixed in almost all of the spicy minced meat and it turns out to be not overwhelmingly spicy, but just nice for the kick. As for portion wise, the deluxe versions of their ramen are good enough if you want it to be a bit more filling.
