Lean Bento

As much fun as the occasional indulgence might be, one must admit that the body needs and craves a nutritious meal more often than not. Unfortunately, when one is on the go, eating healthy might be quite a feat as nutritious and affordable options can be rather limited. Lean Bento recently re-opened their establishment in Holland Drive, right across Buona Vista MRT station, offering healthy and affordable meals right at the heart of the Circle Line and EW Line junction.

Visiting the cafe on a Tuesday evening, it was quiet at 6pm but the crowd started building up near 7pm. I loved how the menu was, once again, a pick-n-mix style. The variety of ingredients and customisation allows for even the pickiest eater to find something they would enjoy.

I ordered their October special, consisting of a spicy chicken leg, cherry tomatoes, salad leaves, onset egg and sweet potato (they ran out of pumpkin). My dining partner ordered the chicken sausages with edamame and scrambled eggs. Look at the amount of food we ate for the price of sgd$11.95 each!

The meats were juicy and succulent. We were given a sizeable portion of each, but for customers with larger appetites, there is an option to choose 2 proteins for a little bit more cost. Vegetarians need not fret, because Lean Bento also offers tempeh in place of the meats. The complex carb options were also a nice change from the refined carbs usually offered at other eateries. The vegetables were fresh and crunchy and dressed lightly with a sweet dressing that made the usually bitter leaves more palatable. Besides the main meals, Lean Bento also offers snacks such a protein waffles and muffins which are lower in carbs and fat. With something for everyone, Lean Bento looks set to conquer the world of healthy food establishments with its winning formula of affordability, variety and quality of food.
