Summer Hokkaido Fair @ Takashimaya

Fans of Japanese food and culture rejoice! The Summer Hokkaido Fair is back in Takashimaya and will last until 9 August 2016. Expect tons of delicious Japanese produce and snacks imported directly from Hokkaido, from King Crabs to croquettes to cream puffs. There is also a Hokkaido showcase area featuring skincare products famous in Japan. Right in front of Cold Storage at Takashimaya B2, these Japanese stalls will exhibit and serve their delicacies from now until August 9 at 8pm.

THE STALLS

  • PETITE MERVEILLE

Right in front of the escalator, this stall sells Hokkaido’s best Hakodate Mel Cheese and swiss rolls.

  • WATANABE SHOUTEN

Offering seasoned and dried scallops, they grill the scallops, corn and squids on-the-spot and serve them to customers.

GRILLED SQUID ($6.00 per stick)
These grilled squids are make to order, so squid lovers should try these fresh grilled squids that come from Hokkaido’s seas.

Right beside the grill counter, they also offer ready made grilled squid and scallops.

  • SUGIYAMA SUISAN

This stall serves authentic seafood bento ranging from king crabs to ikura (fish roe) to scallops.

  • MARUDAI SUISAN

A seafood stall selling whole crabs such as hairy crab, hanasaki crab and the huge king crab. You will be able to buy boiled king crab legs and spectate the chef chopping them up nicely for you.

Look at the size of these king crab legs! Each of them almost spans one arms length.

  • YAMASA MIYAHARA

A fried food stall selling various fish cakes with different fillings such as onion, scallop, shrimp, edamame, etc.

  • KANEHACHI SUISAN

Next is this grilled fish stall, where you get to see the chef prepares the fish on the table. They sell grilled fish whole, grilled fish bento box and some frozen fishes.

  • TAKEDASYOKUHIN

Serves a variety of marinated ikura. There are also some bowls of fish roe displayed for you to try.

  • OOTA FOODS

Sells Japanese croquette in various sizes and fillings, the largest is the jumbo king crab croquette. They also offer rice wrapped with squid.

BIG CRAB CROQUETTE ($5.50)

Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, this croquette has the delicious taste of crab meat. Those who want to try king crab meat should get the jumbo king crab croquette at $7.80 each.

SQUID RICE ($4.80)

Need some rice to complement with squids? Squid lovers can try this delicacy, where rice is stuffed within the squid and steamed.

Sells dried scallops, squids and clams in pre-weighed packages.

Another dessert stall in the fair, they sell packaged cream puffs, cheesecakes, puddings and milk soft ice cream.

Directions: Alight at Orchard MRT Station (red line NS22) and exit at Exit D towards Wisma Atria B1 (do not exit to Ion Orchard). Walk through Wisma Atria all the way through to Ngee Ann City. Continue until you reach Takashimaya department store and the open square to the right. Enter the department store, and continue until you see the escalators after all the kitchenwares. Take the escalator down and the Summer Hokkaido Fair is just in front.
